When I leave, I would like the day to be as soft as a bank of ferns. I would like the clouds to throw their arms wide open in a burst of silver and sunlight. Oh, when I leave, let it be a beautiful day!

No film noir departure for me! No tearful letters dissolving in the rain! Let the rain bring its puddles with their many-colored reflections. There will be shimmering leaves, sunbursts, brightly colored umbrellas, faint flickers of bird flight. When I leave, the puddles will vibrate like portals opening into the aether!

“Why is she looking down?” people will ask. “Not looking down at all,” I’ll reply. I’ll be exploring those puddles, making a world quiver with a gentle toe prod.
Perhaps it won’t be my toe that makes the world quiver. Perhaps it will be the thunderous rumbling of a train in a station. The air will be heavy with the smell of diesel and hot machinery! Inside and outside, my ribs will be thumping! My eardrums will pound!
Oh, when I leave, it will be a beautiful day!
my train comes roaring /
on rollicking waves of sound – /
leaving at last //

This post is written for Ligo Haibun Photo Prompt 8, where our task was to write about one of two photos. I chose the train station. Hopefully you will forgive me for introducing The Beatles into a haibun! But … we saw a wonderful Beatles tribute band called “Rain” the other evening – and their tribute to the Sergeant Pepper era was amazing.

Took a long time for this one to make it to my Reader. Worth the wait! As I said in an email, the prose blows me away, the haiku integrate nicely…and I really don’t care for the Beatles’ song “Lucy…” :P I guess you can’t please all the people all the time! :)
Hmmm… wonder why the reader is so delayed today? Darn WP hiccups!
So glad you liked the prose — I struggled with it for a bit — didn’t really get the FEEL of it till the very end. So — thank you very much! :)
lovely writing. bon voyage for when you leave …
Thank you very much Belinda :)
This is one of your more brilliant haibun I think Jen, I just read you struggled with it … think you won in the end.
Thanks Georgia!
The words and feeling were swirling around the outside of my vision — and wouldn’t *quite* come in for a landing!
This means a lot :)
You’re on a roll with your haiku and haibun … I think your muse is making yo struggle to raise you to excellence!
Thanks Georgia!
Though … some days … I wish the muse would give me a few hints — and a bit sooner!
lol … they are bitches my dear and temperamental ones at thet.
Ain’t that the truth! :'(
alas … sigh.
Such a wonderful departure! Love the idea of kicking a puddle to agitate the world within.
So glad you liked it!
Gotta keep the portal people on their toes…! ;)
Love it!
So glad! I thought of you at the concert!
I have never seen them! Not yet, anyways… but I am seeing Ringo Saturday here in Cleveburg. :)
So jealous!!!
Huh. I read “when I leave” as “when I die”. I wonder if anyone else reads it that way. Or, is it just me?
There are many kinds of voyages. :)
No worries though; not planning on checking out any time soon.
I always enjoy your Haibuns, Jen. You do them so well. Such a perfect mix of prose and poetry!
Thank you so much Kirsten :)
What a lovely haibun – so full of sweet longing and love of life. I’m tempted to say – please don’t leave – keep writing instead :)
Thanks Suzanne! I’m so glad you liked it.
No worries — no plans on leaving just yet. :)
Jolly good :)
