skylark 1a

skylark 1b

Linked to Carpe Diem Time Machine #6: Skylark.  For our inspiration, here are two haiku by Chèvrefeuille:

mezzo-soprano sings
a love song by Chopin –
cry of a Skylark

in touch with the gods
pine trees reaching for heaven –
skylarks sing their song

William Wordsworth’s “To a Skylark” was also offered for our inspiration.

Ethereal minstrel! pilgrim of the sky!
Dost thou despise the earth where cares abound?

Or, while the wings aspire, are heart and eye
Both with thy nest upon the dewy ground?
Thy nest which thou canst drop into at will,
Those quivering wings composed, that music still!

Leave to the nightingale her shady wood;
A privacy of glorious light is thine;

Whence thou dost pour upon the world a flood
Of harmony, with instinct more divine;
Type of the wise who soar, but never roam;
True to the kindred points of Heaven and Home!

  1. This is really helpful — ! I felt the second one was stronger – but the comments made me doubt that. So it’s good to know they both have value. Very glad you like the post 🙂

  2. Oh, thank you Hamish! If you only knew how much I struggled with this. At first the haiku kept coming out all complicated and cluttered — so this is very, very encouraging 🙂
