Dog Playing Sick Who Says Nuts

quoth Tim Terrier
by head hurth!
now Tim’s up – and quite merry
from his 80 proof snake oil –
still sick – but quite numb!

soon you’ll need more hair of the dog!
a curse on these quacks!

Linked to B&P’s Shadorma and Beyond at MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie, where our task was to write either a cinquenta (a poem of *exactly* fifty characters) or a shadorma (a non-rhyming 6-line poem in 3/5/3/7/7/5 syllables).  This is a shadorma followed by a cinquenta.

Lest anyone think I’m toying with too painful a subject – here’s a great article about old Patent Medicines.  [It opens in PDF format and has images of old trade cards too.]  Some patent medicines really DID have 40% alcohol – making the cure as bad as the ailment in many cases.

And this is an interesting article comparing “hair of the dog” in different languages.

  1. Boy, you do like setting challenges for yourself – a shadorma followed by a cinquenta, that’s humorous, historical, starring dogs… got that, muses?! 🙂

  2. I am a dog lover, so of course I love this. Also realised when reading this that I’d read the prompt wrong!!! *sigh* Still love this, but now very annoyed with myself! *grrrrrrr*
