Red dragonfly. Hans Hillewaert CC-BY-SA-3.0

At Carpe Diem Tan Renga #88, our challenge was to add two lines in approximately 7/7 to Jane Reichhold’s haiku using image association:

shamanic journey
a red dragonfly comes
to guide the canoe

Here are our host’s examples:

shamanic journey
a red dragonfly comes
to guide the canoe
shamans drums resonate
the cry of an eagle

shamanic journey
a red dragonfly comes
to guide the canoe
deep silence – the voice of the stream
and buzzing mosquitoes

shamanic journey
a red dragonfly comes
to guide the canoe
ancient wisdom unfolds
becoming one with the dragonfly

And here is my own:

shamanic journey
a red dragonfly comes
to guide the canoe                          (Jane R.)

through glassy waters
and the shadows of arrows        (Paloma)

  1. I don’t think I saw this CDHK prompt back in June. I love Jane’s haiku, I must say – so vivid, yet mysterious. And I think your added lines are 2/3 of a fine haiku in its own right.. 🙂
