3 18 2015 evening street stop light green light tree branch silhouette sign 2

tootsie rolls and lollipops
and russet leaves
parade-scattered
under the Friday night lights

junker punks
funks and flunks
powder puffs
dipping snuff

i’ve had enough
of this redneck town

somewhere the rain
filters through maples
crimson and gold
and the pines yield their scent
to the endless
lavender mountains

and yet
i’m here
i’m here
i’m here

so restless –
these celebrations
are not mine –
all my dreams
urge me on to wild places –
how long, Jen? how long?

  1. Redneck is everywhere. But so can our own kind of celebrations. Of course that comes from someone who has taken a 5200 mile road trip following flying to California earlier in the year followed by a 1200 mile condolence and help trip.

  2. I hear you talking, right here inside my soul … and echoing in this emptiness the words — I’m here, I’m here, I’m here … I know this wanderlust too well – and it’s calling me – you’re poem expressed it very very well!
